I made this top using Simplicity 2147. Simplicity 2147 is a beginners pattern and even includes the tagline, “Learn to sew.” My advice is to “learn to sew” with something else. This pattern seems simple enough with only four pieces and lots of instruction, but I had some major fitting issues. The sizing on the dress version seemed really off and ended up looking weird.
Long story short, this started out as a dress, but it looked funny. So I cut it at the waist and made a shirt instead. I used double fold bias tape for the sleeves, neck, and hemline. I like it quite a lot as a shirt actually.

I think it turned out really well! I’m finding that the “easy” patterns always end up like poorly fitting sack dresses.

Thanks Leah! And you’re right about the “easy” patterns, sometimes they do end up like “poor fitting sack dresses:)” And on top of that, they’re not always that easy…
