Being with Jody (Lange) whose emphasis is very much on reducing waste, stopping sweatshop manufacturers and creating beautiful one-off garments, I am trying to see what can be made from discarded RTW clothing. I found a HUGE 1980’s dress in the Salvos the other day ($4 on sale!), linen, viscose mix and quite lovely. When I say it was huge, I mean there was a lot of fabric in it as the thing was so loooong! So, I cut off the bodice (which my daughter wants as a bolero), neatened the ex-waist seam with bias tape and hoiked it up above the bust :) The fabric belt became shoulder straps and a small rose in the centre back. I wore this outfit to work with my electric blue suede shoes and got loads of favourable comments (didn’t fess up that it was a refashion!)
