Description

Designed in fall of 2009, I wanted to present a long formal gown made of fabric that wasn’t made for its intention. Shirting material is the nice stretchy cotton fabric that women’s collared shirts are made of. I adjusted a Simplicity pattern for this dress and added the fishtail sweep train. The underskirt is black chiffon to pull in the dark stripes as to not make it look like a simple wedding dress.

Material Notes

White cotton stretch shirting fabric. Black nylon chiffon. White cotton thread. 22" zipper.

I like the idea behind this dress. I’ve always thought of using a shirting fabric for a dress… this turned out lovely. The fish tail is a nice surprise, :)

thank you! it’s too bad the photo is so blurry, but i’m glad it gets the idea across. i’d love to see your shirting dress when you finish it!
