Inspired by Burda 02-2008-124 and changed the front neckline to a “V”. It turns out looking like a sofa. Need to refine fabric-choosing skills! Anyway, I just made this dress to practice pattern drafting, dart sewing, and use up fabric inventory. It is lined with white cotton batiste. It’s a good practice before advancing to wools & silks and more complicated designs. Blogged more on http://littlecottondresses.blogspot.com

I like the way the dress looks without a top under it. If I were using the fabric, which I like-being partial to black (or navy) on white, I’d have made a somewhat fuller skirt. A good tip from littlepig about the darts. No one needs to maim one’s neighbor, even if he is too close to “the girls.” Cordially, Nehmah

But if you wanted you could change the skirt to a circle skirt, wear a bullet bra and become a 1950’s pin up! Then it won’t matter if you are poke-y or not!
And it doesn’t look like a sofa, it is gorgeous.

Great, classic dress! It doesn’t look like a sofa at all… and I’m now considering refining my dart making skills to defend my honor. ;-)

I love the little annotation on the photo! It made me laugh! And the dress DOES NOT look like a sofa : )

I think the fabric is pretty. I also like the idea of adding red accessories.

Good idea! I do love red or other bright, vivid colors with black-white combo

I actually like your fabric; I don’t think it looks like any sofa I’ve seen. It’s very modern and would look fab with a red accessory or two. A great tip I learned from here is to sew your darts on a gentle curve so they won’t end up pointy. Great job!!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll search for the details and hopefully my next dart won’t be poke-y. :)
