Description
i was having a look through my old burda mags the other day, i bought loads on ebay!!! and came across this pinafore dress and matching jacket! it looked like nothing made up but the line drawing made me think hummmmm i could make this and omit the blouse for a modern take!! the fabric i choose was lovely, its black and cream with a gold embossed flower on it. i’ll make one in plain fabric one day to show of all the lovely dart detail on both dress and jacket as you can’t see it to much on the patterned fabric. i loved wearing this x

Great work Mary – I love it!!! Re the bra, maybe you could either make/buy some longer length straps so that they cross over at the back? There are often little packs of magic gadgets in the lingerie dept of department stores :) And I’m a fan of retro Burda mags too – I somehow managed to get rid of a large collection of Miss B Magazines years ago and I’m gradually rebuilding my collection. Still haven’t found the one with my most cherished pattern of all time tho – I’ll keep searching! x

Hi debbie. thanks for your lovely comment. i actually lengthened the straps on a bra to wear with backless numbers and had left it out to wear with this. it was’nt suitable though as you could see part of the back strap!! i ended up wearing a strapeless bra which was ok but i might look into making a bodysuit the same shape as the dress?? theres actually a few in these old mags and it explains how to make the top section bra like. I bet you feel awful getting rid of the mags. i.ve a couple of them mags. keep looking. xx

Ooh a bodysuit could be a plan! Good thinking. And yes – devestated re the mags. But gradually building it up again – they’re just so rare. A girl in France was selling some last week but at £8 each postage??!! It couldn’t be justified!

They are lol. i.ve recently turned the box room into a dressing room with rails etc lol. its basic at the moment but i.m going to do it very girly. I just love sewing and plan more. i.m going to make some tartan jackets for my daughter and me next .a blazer for her and a cape for me. just waiting on the fabric x

Thank you so much. i’m really into the little coats abd boleros now. i love the fact that the dress just looked like a plain shift dress until i took the bolero jacket of x
