I can’t decide on my feelings about this dress. I really like the drapes on the skirt-bit, but it feels a bit like a pajama with the very wide top-part. That might very well have to do with my choice of material though, which was quite unvoluntary as I had failed to see that it requires a 165 cm’s wide fabric. The one I bought for it (a viscose jersey with thin stripes in two shades of red) was only 140cm’s wide.
This was the only material in big enough a piece I had at home.
Odd. When I look at the pictures I quite like that it’s black and white and not darker. I may have to wait a bit and actually wear it a few times before dying it!
More about it in my blog
Update: I’ve added a picture of the dress as it looks in the book. I forgot to mention that I omitted the slit openings in the sleeves. I thought it might be a bit too flirtatious for me to be able to wear it at work, and cold in winter…

This is on top of my to-do-list from drape drape 2. Although, there’s so many great designs to choose from. Your’s looks great!

Great job on this Drape Drape dress. Love the fabric. Mmmm, wasn’t to sure about those arm slits either. Looks good without them- and a little more practical.

But really, really warm! You’re moving into winter though… might be suitable.
The skirt-bit stretches a bit too much in mine, I’ll choose a material with better stretch the next time I make it, now I have to wash it after half a day of wear to keep it looking good.

I’m mad about draped tops and dresses and this one is great! :) It fits you perfectly! And I reeealy like the stripes and the skirt part… I think it may lose its personality if you dye it :(

I love this dress! I can’t for the life of me work out how all the drapes work on the bottom part. I might just have to buy this book!

I LOVE THIS DRESS!!! I had to shout that out. This is really really really really cute and sexy and cute and I’m definitely making this, with a few alterations to the top – I love that the top is wide but I think it’s too wide for me (I’m too skinny to pull off that width)

Very cute dress… and the skirt-bit is really smart. I’m usually not so much into dresses but this one I will actually put on my list of things to sew. :) What book did you get this from exactly? I’m going to see if I can get it on Amazon.

Wow, I might try this design! It looks so great, but I would do it with the slit openings in the sleeves!

oh, sigh sigh sigh…I love the book (bought it, of course, both of them!) and am in awe that you made it yourself… and it looks fantastic!! I’m having my mom make the skirt with big ruffles (I think at the very last page?) for my birthday but dare not try myself at the moment. As I look at the book, I kinda liked the slit in the sleeves, but in real life, maybe you are right about it.

Ooooh, I think you could have made it yourself! It’s not that hard at all, you only need to know how to gather, really, and since you read Japanese and can actually read the instructions, well… you should pull it off (it looks more advanced than it is) Maybe you can make a second one when you’ve got your birthday present to guide you :-)?
Otherwise I recommend the shirt, no 4, as a first project. I love it, and it’s quick and easy.

Looks great! Nice to see this made up. I’ve so far made 3 of dress No2 and 2 of top No4. I have the pattern traced and purchased the fabric for skirt No13 too.
Slightly obsessed with this book right now!

Have a nice UK-trip!

The way the lines are directed in the back is awesome! The whole drapey-ness is very mod and fun to look at and wear.

Fear not, you should really rock this dress for the night!

I love the skirt part and the back chevrons. The sleeves do feel a bit top-heavy, but it’s still gorgeous and fun! The more stuff I see out of the Drape Drape books the more tempted I become…

Yes… very much so! But according to my measurements I’m slightly bottom-heavy, so I actually prefer a bit of top-heavy-ness, though this takes a bit of getting used to :-).
Get vol 2! It’s addictive! But beware that if you’re larger than a XS/S you have to grade up the patterns, not very hard with multi-size patterns though.

I love it! The stripes give it great direction and interest. Well done!

The volume in the top looks good to me. I especially like (besides the skirt!) the chevrons made in the back seam. Cute use of stripes.

I think the dress is very cute…maybe with black leggings and the boots. Extremely cute!
