I recently got my copy of Burdastyle Sewing Handbook and the first project that I chose from it was the blouse, specifically Novita’s variation. For the center front, side front and back pieces I used a coral orange crepe back satin. For the front and back yoke pieces I used an emerald green crepe back satin. I made a slight change and that was elimining the sleeves. Additionally, I put a long bow on the right shoulder. I finished the armholes with bias tape made out of the orange fabric. The project was pretty easy though I made a mistake. I used a fusible interfacing that wasn’t light enough, which made my front and back yokes look a little bulky. What I don’t like from the final result is that the crepe back satin creases a lot and is sort of hard to iron. Other than that I love the color and fall of the fabric and how beautifully it waves. I will do this project again using a more appropriate fusible interfacing to see if I can improve the result and my skills, of course. Also I would like to try to lengthen the pattern to sew a dress, I think it could be a very interesting project with the right fabric.
150 cm orange crepe back satin, 50 cm green crepe back satin, 91cm x10 cm lightweight fusible interfacing.
