Description
Preparing for the approaching cold weather of the Winter months I decided to make a coat.
First of all I fell in love with a chartreuse-coloured wool blend coating fabric I found online. Quickly after this I fell in love with the liquid gold that was the matching chartreuse acetate lining and I was all go.
I made a toile as the fabric was expensive and this went well so I started on the coat itself. The facings at the front are shaped with iron-on interfacing and I used shoulder pads to bulk out the shoulders.
The trickiest part of the coat was hemming the bottom as it liked to show dimples. Grrr.
My ultimate and happily successful solution was to iron on interfacing to the hem and stitch the hem to the threads of the interfacing rather than the threads of the main garment fabric itself. To avoid an obvious line from the interfacing I cut it with pinking shears.
As a finishing touch I added a light chartreuse stitch to the centre back above the pleat and two on the front panels at the top.
Ta-daa!
I have a bit of the fabric left but I’m not sure what to do with it yet, any ideas?
Material Notes
Medium weight wool and polyamide blend coating (80% Wool, 20% Polyamide)
100% acetate lining fabric

I love the color. you crafted this beautifully. I especiallly like the inverted pleat in the back. It looks like there is a little sewn triangle detail.
for the left overs – how about a pair of 20" square pillows for your sofa with satin backs (maybe you have some leftover lining too? could look cute with an inset square of gros grain ribbon on the face.

Thanks :). I did think of cushions because the colour is actually in the colour scheme of my new flat! I’m only hesitant because this fabric would make for some expensive cushions!

Beautiful! I love the color, and the simple design. And I second the vote for winter shorts.

This is such a gorgeous coat, I adore the colour and the style is just so classic and elegant on you. Did you use a pattern for this?? I would make a pair of shorts to wear with tights for winter, i think they’d suit your shape so well and look great x

Thanks! I didn’t design this pattern myself as I found the perfect one from Angela Kane’s website :). I agree some high waisted shorts with an invisible zip down the side could work really well!

Love the colour on this coat, great style, simple and cute, why not make a hat for the colder weather with the left over fabric, or a pencil skirt depending on how much you have.

Thanks, a pencil skirt definitely crossed my mind, but I do think the fabric is not quite right for it. I’ll think about it some more. A hat could definitely work!
