I always wanted to make my own bavarian dirndl for the Munich Oktoberfest, and now I just managed it. It was really fun to sew it, with masses of fabric for the ample skirt part. I modified a pattern of the Burda Special “Modische Trachten” from 1989 to have buttons in the front instead of a zipper in the back and added white cotton linen at the bodice.

You’ve done I marvellous job on this, Kihli! I’ve used this as an “Example creation” for my fabrics international wiki article on cotton…

I’m all jealous, my country is too young, we don’t have a national costume. If we did I would like if it was as flattering and beautiful as your dirndl :o)

Beautiful. Now you just have to put on the “Kropfkette” and voilà – a “Bayrisches Madl”. Ist ganz toll geworden. Viel Spass auf dem Oktoberfest!

looks great! i love the buttons, too! i know to buy a good dirndl is very expensive (my sister live in munich and is a dancer in the “hofbräuhaus”), so you did a great job to sew one. Viel Spaß auf dem Oktoberfest!

Beautiful! I love the buttons and your fabric choice. Shouldn’t you be holding a couple of beer steins, though? :) Viel Spass!
