I’ve been eager to try upholstery for quite a while, but I’m still a few DIY books and materials away from any serious projects. The closest I’ve gotten is my “orange chair”: http://megmadethis.blogspot.com/2010/01/apartment-therapy.html , which is a combination upholstery/slipcover project, and even that I’m itching to re-do once I move in August.
Desk chair upholstery, however, is a cheap and simple way to change up a room and try out some simple upholstery techniques without committing to a big project. And to match my new desk chair, which goes in my bedroom, I made pillow cases from the same fabric for the bed.

This is a great idea. My desk chair is spilling its stuffing and is desperately in need of a re-do! Thanks!!

Great idea to cover with a cheery fabric! Like everyone else, I never would have thought to cover my ugly chair, even though I’m always making covers for something!
Edited to add: I wish my sewing area was a neat as yours!! I’m about to make a screen to disguise mine :-}

My office chair is so worn, I never thought of recovering it. What a great idea, thanks so much!

Thanks for the download. I will now try (actually, after Xmas is over) to recover my Freecycled chair that had the misfortune to get too close to heat and have the olefin fabric melt. I’ll bet that was a delightful aroma. Nehmah

I love it. The print is so cheerful. I have a similar chair for sewing – who doesn’t? And of course the upholstery is black. When is the upholstery anything but black or grey? Black is not one of my home decorating colours but it never occurred to me to do anything about it until I saw your great results. Now I am going to look for the most flamboyant print I can find to make my own slip covers. Thanks for the inspiration.
