Denim By Hand London Charlotte skirt

Melbourne, Austr...

My first attempt at the lovely By Hand London Charlotte pencil skirt. My denim is super crisp and a bit wrinkly, but hopefully it will soften up! I added a kick pleat for better mobility and did my first lapped zipper ā€“ I love it! More details and pics at my blog

Iā€™m not sure if the horizontal fold that develops across the hips at times is a fabric or fitting issue ā€“ any thoughts very welcome!

I like this skirt a lot, and you’ve done a beautiful job. I’ve been wanting to make it myself, but the pattern seems to require an obscene amount of fabric (3 yards?) Where does it all go? Is it doubled up in two layers or something? Just curious.

Hi thanks for comment! Oh no I only used about 1 metre of 150cm wide fabric! Maybe you were looking at the part that had the peplum? I remember that the grain of the waistband layout runs in the same direction as the grain of the skirt pieces – I was just able to sneak all of it in on one width of 150cm fabric, size 8 I think (and that included the added kick pleat – I cut the back piece with the kick pleat on the fold). Narrower fabric or a larger size would definitely need the equivalent of two lengths of the skirt piece. The lovely ladies at my fabric shop laid it all out with my pattern pieces for me too to be 100%! Hope it helps!

Super cute! I love the lines and that pleat in the back is timeless.
