Description

I bought this cotton dress fabric from an Etsy store called theDelhi Store. See below in materials for the link to this wonderful little online bazaar. The fabric is very reasonable per metre and postage would have to be the best in the world and quite quick in arriving from India to Australia. It was a gamble but what a delight when I received the parcel. The fabric feels like Liberty and sews like Liberty which is pure pleasure for me. Unfortunately the printed pattern on the fabric was warped and I could not match up the pattern on the side seams but overall, I am thrilled with this dress. I cannot even remember buying this pattern (New Look 6803) that I had in my stash as I rarely buy patterns, but it was a dream to make and fitted straight up with no alterations. I can see more of these dresses in this pattern and with fabric from the Delhi Store.

Material Notes

Cotton from the best fabric shop on etsy http://www.etsy.com/shop/theDelhiStore

Thank-you poldapop. I do like bright colours in fabric but I really am a very conservative person and wearing something bright is about as radical as I can be these days.

The fabric is amazing and dictates the pattern’s style. Chosen and made with great taste, indeed.

I love the gorgeous print and I love very much the neckline and the whole design of your dress. Don’t worry about the matching at the side seams, it just looks like rtw, but only at the side seams because the rest is coutoure;) Overall very nice project my dear schnui!!

Thanks so much about the couture compliment. That is very generous of you Liliv. I am not sure about that but I do attempt to sew everything I make to the best of my ability, just as you do.

Lovely dress and neckline. Don’t worry too much about the side seam mishap the print will hide it

Thanks Kisses. I do like to pattern match and when I lay the fabric out to place the pattern I nearly gave up on the idea of this dress. Now I am so glad I didn’t because I really love the print and colours and feel of this fabric. I have ordered again from the Delhi Store because it is such lovely fabric and I do love colour.

I don’t think anyone will notice the side seams :) the print is busy and cheery enough to keep everyone’s attention on you instead! Its a very comfortable looking dress, and easy to wear.

What a great find, that online shop! The print is gorgeous, and with that red neckline it is just perfect! I am computerless at the moment, I read your mail on the phone but cannot reply, give me a couple of days, and I will write back. Back to your dress: this kind of kaftan dresses are supercomfy and they look so elegant. I must remember to sew myself one for next summer!

Don’t worry about replying Merche, I know you are really busy and if you are like me, the phone isn’t the best way to receive emails. Thanks for your comments on my dress which is supercomfy on this very hot day that we are having.

The colours and design of the fabric is gorgeous and I also love the neckline. Too bad about the matching problem along the sides, but honestly, only a sewer would notice. You were very brave buying from India in the first place. I think you did really well.

Thanks so much ozviking. You should give it a go buying fabric from India. Via Etsy it is quite safe and you don’t part with too much money either.

Oops! So sorry about the side seams, but it couldn’t see very clear because the printed fabric will hide it. So you are saved :-) Anyway, your dress is lovely and the fabric is pretty. I do really love the neckline so much.

You are very sweet velvetribbon to comment and yes you are right about the pattern basically hiding the miss mash of the side seams. I love the neck line too and it is very flattering.
