I’ve had this fabric for maybe over ten years. We bought it at the Aloha Stadium flea market in O’ahu when I was 9 or 10 and I hoped to someday have an “aloha dress” made for me… time passed and I never committed to using it because I didn’t want to screw it up. Anyway, this summer I finally designed an original dress to sew, comfortably loosely-fitted, with lining in the top, a narrow waistband and gently gathered skirt, plus side-zipper. I created a pattern on tracing paper, and had to make sure it accommodated the amount of fabric I had (which I believe was just under 2 yds.).
I’m pretty happy with the outcome, although the straps still need a little tweaking, and someday I might need to put a longer zipper in…
