I’m currently working on a wearable art project as part of my involvement with The Textile Art Forum. Our theme this year is Deconstruct/Reconstruct and I am making a dress out of two fabrics: cotton that has been composted and some old silk wardrobe linings. Both fabrics are very delicate. The dress has a fitted bodice and a puffball skirt. It has a kind of ‘Miss Haversham’ look as the fabrics are old, stained and torn.

update…. Feb 2010… the dress is almost finished. The composted cotton was so delicate that it was a challenge to work with but the final result has just the look that I wanted, earthy and natural. I decided to add a sash as it looked unfinished without it.

Final update April 2010..We had a photo shoot with my lovely model Tessa and with photography by Reno Designs. Have abou a dozen photos for my portfolio and will be printing some of them onto fabric to be stretched over frames and exhibtied along with the dress later in September this year at County Cavan Museum in BallyjamesDuff, Co Cavan as part of the Lakeland Quilt Festival

composted 100% white cotton - skirt antique silk - bodice cotton lining net underskirt embroidered with various cotton threads and metallic thread printed with acrylic silk screen ink mixed with textile medium
