As soon as my sister (the model) put this dress on, she said, “wow, I feel like Nancy Drew!” A fan of the character myself, it was fun to interpret this garment as something she would wear. When I made the dress, I definitely did not think Nancy Drew, it’s just always been a “schoolgirl” dress for me. This was my first experience with pockets and button holes on top of a garment, which were kind of difficult to put in and I had to redo a few. I think the fabric is a wool blend, but as I won it at the state 4-H dress revue competition, I’m not entirely sure, and I don’t have any scraps left to do a burn test. The jacket comes from a different store bought pattern than the dress does, but both are fully lined. The back is not exciting, so we only took photos of the front.

How very Nancy Drew. You should be out there with Bess and George solving capers. I love it!

I love the vintage feel of this dress—it could be WWII or it could be 1960’s Mod… :)

No, she was a teenage mystery solver! a really fun, generally wholesome girl role model for young girls (but I still love the books, movie, and video games :) )
