Description

It’s been so long since I posted a project! In that time I’ve moved from Japan to sunny Singapore, but I haven’t stopped sewing! This top by Deer and Doe is the first thing I’ve made completely out of fabric from Singapore (I may have hoarded a lot of Nippori’s finest fabrics before I left Tokyo…) as I fell in love with the curious foxes on this beautiful cotton duck. I immediately knew that it would be perfect as my first Datura because the pattern is so simply tailored, the fabric can easily be a little wild! I made it pretty much exactly as written, except that I left off the bias tape joining the neckline and added an addition button to the bottom. This pattern is rated as Advanced and while it is relatively simple, the shoulders (which are entirely enclosed) are not. I wrote some more about this project on my new blog (it’s a bit sparse at the moment though!)

Very, very quirky! Delightful neckline and print. Welcome to singapore! Have you found all the fabric haunts yet?

Thank you! I’m very happy to be in Singapore at last! I’ve found a few fabric places (Spotlight, Arab Street, Peopl’s Park Complex), but I’m always looking out for more…!

I think you’ve found all the major ones! Apart from a few small ones in Chinatown and beyond, and of course Ikea, I think you’ve got them all! Hope you’re liking it here, apart from the sewing :)

Ha ha! I do really enjoy wandering about finding new places to haunt! I’m really loving Singapore so far! People are very friendly here and it’s so beautiful and green! :-)

yay! there are a surprising number of forgotten spots for a place so tiny…i don’t think i know all of them! and the food…how are you liking the food? we’re very very proud of our food!

Oh! The food is incredible! We found a fantastic satay place by the Gardens By The Bay (which I also really love! That Cloud Forest is heaven…!), but I’m a bit tricky because I’m a coeliac so I miss out on a good few delicious looking things. :-( Singapore really is a lovely place to be though – I really missed it when we went home to Europe for three weeks! It definitely feels like home already! :-)

Oh great! So glad you are enjoying it and aren’t too disturbed by the heat. such a pity you cant enjoy all the food though. If you happen to be into thriftiness too, let me know…there are a few nice thrift shops (and also some bad ones!)

No, the heat is fine – I’ve just had to adjust my wardrobe a bit which is more than fine! Tokyo got very very hot and humid in the summer too, and the first year I was there there was very little air con, so this is fine! :-) I’ve heard the thrift shops are amazing – a friend of mine got a wedding dress from one! – so I will definitely be taking you up on that offer once I run out of sewing steam! :-)

The lady that sold me the fabric looked a bit shocked when I said it was for a top, so I think you’re right! I love your work too – hurray for bright colours! :-)

That’s the fun part with sewing – You can use what kind of material or fabric you wanna :)
Thanks, and I love colors as well!

Aww! Thank you, Mary! You are always so kind about my projects! I think this neckline suits me better than a round one – I wish I could pull them off! ;-)

I know! Foxes were always my favourite animal, so this immediately jumped to the top of my sewing queue!
