My busty teenage daughter has a terrible time finding things to fit that are also “cool” so I end up making most of her dresses. I am terrible about posting them on Burda though since she rarely allows me to photograph her in anything. She found this novelty twill on sale and thought it would be hilarious to make a graduation dress out of it as at the current school they must don very boring uniforms daily.
Pockets were added to allow her to carry her items as no bags or purses were allowed during the last day on campus. Ribbons over the waist band were fused first with interfacing and then stitched in place.Accent bow is removable for washing. She asked me to taper the skirt a bit more than the original pattern after all was said and done. I did have to enlarge the pattern several sizes to accommodate her as Burda sadly only puts out the cute patterns for rails.
Cotton twill, zipper, ribbons, hook & eye, fusible web tape

Thanks! She was very happy with it, which is all that really matters to me when sewing for her at this stage in life. When she realized there were pockets, I even got an “I love you! You are awesome!” So I keep that tucked in the back of my head for when the teen tantrums surface. LOL!
