My version of the Danielle dress, inspired by Vivat Veritas’ cut out version. Bodice made from the Danielle pattern, with a box pleated skirt. I used an invisible zipper and completely lined the bodice in the same fabric. The invisible hem is hand sewn (which I am really proud of!) and took ages :P The extra effort was totally worth it! The fabric was bought at an op shop so I’m not quite sure what sort of fabric it is. It’s quite soft and it crinkles horizontally. It could possibly be vintage but I don’t really know :P

Is it just a big rectangle of fabric, folded in half and box-pleated? Or is it an a-line skirt type thing?

Its pretty much a rectangle box pleated to fit around my waist. When I had finished cutting out the bodice pieces, I had a long rectangle of remaining fabric, so just using some maths ( i think there are 16 pleats in total) i pleated it to fit around my waist :)

I really need to get my head around how to alter a pattern to make it backless – any tips? This looks fantastic

I pretty much just cut a circle in the back pattern piece and went from there :)
