Description

I made this two-piece dress from Simplicity 3873, a pattern from 1941! It’s an “attractive youthful style for the mature figure” according to the pattern envelope, LOL. It has a top blouse gathered at the shoulders and waist with long sleeves gathered at the cuffs, and a gored skirt (11 separate panels). It was great fun to make and I love its authentic period look!

Material Notes

I made this from a vintage yellow (VERY yellow) twin poly-cotton flat sheet from the Salvation Army.

Lots more pics on my blog, Male Pattern Boldness.

It’s funny, I wasn’t so keen on that sheet at first — it looked like French’s mustard — but I really like it as a dress!

PS. The photography is also quite good. I can just imagine her in a street in Chelsea Striking a Pose for Vogue… oops, I meant Burda. :-)

Fabulous darling! Love the collar and the shade of yellow. She looks fabulous as always, but still makes me want to sing that Elton John song… LoL.
