I picked up some gorgeous Michael Miller fabric in Brighton on the weekend which has an Eiffel Tower print and pink backdrop. I had no idea of what I wanted to make with it I just knew I had to make something!
I found an old McCalls dress pattern (Misses Jumpers) I bought a few months ago and decided to customise the neck line using a contrasting green cotton and a cute cow print (hence the name Vache Français – French Cow).
The waist line is gathered at the front and back and with the bottom hem cut on the bais it gives a lovely balloon effect. I also decided on just one pocket and incorporated the cow fabric once again.
For the lining, hem and pocket I used a Paul Smith striped fabric (also picked up cheap in Brighton – seriously, this shop is amazing for original and interesting fabrics – http://www.dittofabrics.co.uk )
I altered the back of the dress which originally instructed to fit a 20” zip, by overlapping the back bodice sections to create an asymmetric style and fitted three recycled buttons – much cuter!
1.5m for the gathered skirt front and back 45"wide.
1m at 60" wide for the lining and hem.
This pattern would suit lightweight cottons, woolens, tweeds or knits.

I love how you modified the dress pattern to suit your own “artsy” style – looks very comfortable. I do like your choice in fabrics as well – and the buttons are a great idea! Quite inspirational – Thank you for sharing!!

Very cute. Although you used ready pattern, you modified it so that it matches your style, personality. That s the point:)))
