A good friend of mine has for many years dreamed of having his very own, top-notch pirate coat. This was apparently the year for it so he commissioned me and we started collecting information. It was to be wool and fully lined with natural fiber of some sort (turns out we found a lovely rayon lining) and it would have lots of braided trim.
The Fates conspired against us now and then and we were plagued with constant significant delays in getting first the materials and then the buttons. What should have been a well paced completion was a mad dash to the end. Because of our unfortunately hurried pace, we had to minimize the amount of braided trim decoration with the idea that we’ll come back and add more trim at a later date.
I patterned the coat myself, sewed a sample to check fit and then proceeded with the coat from that modified pattern.
coat weight wool, rayon lining, pewter buttons, pellon interfacing
