I found two matching linen Pottery Barn curtains at the Goodwill and was hoping against hope I’d have enough for this dress (Simplicity 2497, Cynthia Rowley)! I’d made a muslin before, and shaved off a size on the bodice – sounds like other people who’ve done this project have had to do the same. If I make the dress a second time, I think I’d make the bodice even more streamlined. I shortened the hem considerably and used my blind hem foot for the first time.
Even though it’s a bit summery, I’m excited enough about this dress to warm it up with tights and boots for the fall/winter!

I made this dress in brown satin for my brother’s wedding – the bridesmaid was very very tall…

Beautiful dress. Love the fabric. I would have never thought it was once a curtain. It looks so modern and the ruffles are adorable.

the crumpled feel of the fabric is just perfect. I bought this pattern for $1 a couple months ago… it might be nearing time to put it to use!

Love the ruffles! What was the shape of it before, and what length?

Thanks! The shape was wider/boxier in the bodice, and fell below the knees.

love the dress! I´m so impressed that you have reused some thing that had been discarded, it makes the whole project twice as special.

I have been eyeing this pattern for about a week. I live in China so it takes real commitment to a pattern to get it bought and mailed to me… and this dress convinced me! I’m gonna ask for it for Christmas! Love this dress! Love your version! Just plain love it! (I also love the shorter version with the sleeves and the round yoke…) yours is totally dreamy and inspiring! thanks! : )

I’m oft in the linen section at Goodwill :) I like this dress more in this fabric than others I’ve seen especially the ruffle…it gives it a delicate quality.
