I wanted a cropped jacket, so i made it trial version out of a khaki that my brother stopped wearing(he dint like the fit). better for me to learn on recycled material than to buy good material and make a mistake.
I did not use a pattern for this and finished it in 3 days. I took the pant apart, cut the sleeves first and then the rest of the jacket. I used another fabric, a printed cotton(scrap) for under the collar and under the pocket flap. I could have used the same material if i tried with the pant material but i wanted to use the cotton fabric for those areas. A few mistakes that I have to correct but i am ok with it. Hubby likes it, me too so now I am looking for the right snap fasteners(big ones with some design on the top) and rivets for the pockets. I plan to use it after that.
