crepe dress

Sussex, United K...

Simplicity K2444. A nod to the fifties with fitted bodice, 3/4 length sleeves and a full skirt. I’ve put on a lot of weight since my thyroid was removed in December and my boobs have a life of their own so I had to do a full bust adjustment to get the bodice to fit. I am a petite so this was a challenge for me since I’ve never had to do this before. I think it came out pretty well but it is in danger of looking like a tent!. I was going to wait to lose the weight before I used this fabric but I have nothing to wear so here it is.

Material Notes

Black crepe , satin binding , invisible zipper. The crepe was very slippery to work with so it’s probably a cheap imitation. It ravelled so much it was a bit of a nightmare so I bound a lot of the edges as I went along. Now it’s sewn the fabric does look nice.

Looks great, and what a good job you’ve done with the crepe! My crepe projects look as if they havent been pressed at all. Well done!!!!!

Thank you. There was definitely a lot of pressing going on!

Thank you. I actually removed a pleat that was on the pattern because I felt it made the skirt look too voluminous on me. I’m pleased with the final result.

This is a very pretty and well sewn dress dear, and you look gorgeous in it! Enjoy your new dress and if you loose weight you’ ll alter it or you will make a new one.

Thank you. I was 2 stone lighter 6 months ago! Such a roller coaster as I’m sure you know. I think sewing has kept me sane.

you just have to keep going. i loved being able to eat what i liked and still stay slim but i had terrible fainting spells and looked ill. like yourself i’ve gained about 2 stones and its hard to get of expecially as they can’t get my thryozine tablet dose right? sewing keeps me sane as well and out of the biscuit tin lol x
