I had this crazy fabric (the true color is the one of the last picture) in my closet for a while because i knew what kind of dress I wanted to make with it and I knew I would need a pattern to do it. So when I finally found a pattern that was almost what I was looking for (I use the top part of the blue dress, with the 3/4 sleeves on the tird picture, but used another pattern for the skirt) I went for it.
The pattern is New look 6723 and I have to say that it was trouble!!!
First time at doing princess seams and i don’t know why but it was really hard for me.
Also seam allowance included are not my thing at all!
But I think what was the most diffcult was the fit! I looked at the measurements of the pattern and found out that I was between sizes 12 and 14 (I’m usually more of a 10 it should have knew something was wrong) so I first made the dress like that and it was way to big.
So I redo it in size 10 and it’s better but I still have a problem with the sleeves in the front, can’t really move as freely as I would like to.
I’m a bit disappointed because I kept the fabric a long time because i had an idea in mind and I bought a pattern for that purpose and the result doesn’t live up to my expectations.

Awesome dress. I think your hard work fitting paid of as the fit of your garment is beautiful.
I understand what you mean about fitting issues. I always find new look patterns to be a bad fit! They have WAY too much wearing ease!

Even though you had a hard time with the pattern and aren’t crazy about the fit, it looks AMAZING! Great job!

This fabric is awesome! I love your exposed zipper, too. I think this is my favorite thing I’ve seen on burdastyle in a while. I want a dress just like this!

I really like it! I do understand the frustration of something not turning out the way you wanted, but it looks good and fits well! I once knitted a really cool sweater with small cap sleeves – and they’re a bit too tight to move my arms freely. But it’s too cool not to wear! I think the same goes for your green dress!

sorry you had so much trouble with the pattern. i still think it turned out great! love the exposed zipper, too. maybe if you wear it and wash it a few times the fabric will loosen up and the sleeves might fit better? it would be a shame not to wear this amazing dress!

oh I hate it when the chart sizing fails to fit you! it’s so disappointing and frustrating, i feel for you!
but on the other hand the dress looks great. If you ever need to just stand still and look fabulous, then this dress is perfect :)

Your dress really looks fabulous, the print is great and I love the exposed zipper! The fix-it suggestion I have would be to add a small gusset into the underarm seam, if possible.

That would have been a clever thing to do! I keep that in mind for further projects, thanx !

I’ve had sizing problems with patterns before. Very frustrating! But I think even tho it didn’t totally live up to your expectations, it turned out cute and was a definite learning experience!

Looks groovy to me. tip for your princess seams. Do a line of stitching (longer stitch than usual) along the seam line of both pieces. It makes it really easy to place them together then. Pin from the top and from the bottom then leave the curve middle bit as the last bit of pinning. I hope that was easy enough to understand

It looks good, despite the troubles you had making it :) Is the fabric woven or jersey? If woven – you might want to add some ease to the sleeves (if possible, with the finished garment) and that might solve some of the problems…. That’s probably the reason why I avoid making sleeves. I mean – it’s hard to make them fit well, eh :7

Thank you :)
The fabric is woven and it’s too late to modify it but I will definitly take your advice for my future projects!
