Description
Pattern is Simplicity 2180 (view A with back of view D). Fabric is ‘Zambia’ a crazy cool fabric I had originally intended for a simple tank. A tank would have been a much safer option…but the dress is more fun. I cut slightly between sizes according to my measurements (a first for me) but still had to do pinning and altering to get the fit right. This dress was hard work for me, I really had to concentrate to work out how to get all the facings right, the print to match, the ZIP IN THE SIDE-SEAM POCKET (pretty proud of that) and placement of the pattern pieces as I really didn’t have enough fabric (hence creative direction changes in the skirt). It’s not perfect, obviously, but I still feel as if I really achieved something. Particularly as the instructions were not nearly detailed enough for someone with as little sewing experience as me. I think I will go back and re-do the hem by hand as I was impatient, did it on the machine, and it looks dodgy. Even for me. I’d like to make this pattern again with a more sedate fabric as despite the work it’s a lovely fit and very comfortable. I may do the version that includes a bow at the back. Hooray for more dresses!

Wow, I really, really love this! And I think you chose a wonderful fabric for this project, too – it’s so cheerful! Also, a zip in the side pocket is a great idea. :)
