I have been suggested to put this pattern, so here it goes.

Basically by altering from this way, you can choose how long your neck line you want.
In the PDF I attached, left is the original patter you can download. Then the right is the altered version. The arrow on the top is the length you can choose how low your neck line will be. Arrow length should be equal to the length from your shoulder to how long ever you decide you want it to be.

    Hi Nonoshuk1,

Sorry, I am pretty new to this and I didn’t quite understand your pattern. Did you sew the extra section of fabric onto the original piece or did you somehow change the fold? I would apreciate any clarification you can give.

Hi Lizo77, I know my explanation int he instruction isn’t so good… sorry!

This really only works with the short top like the mine above, rather than the dress – otherwise you have to extend the line all the way to the bottom of the dress.

If you would like the dress, it is better to divide the top section and skirt section separate and sew together after.

Basically, from the original pattern, you extend the pattern as you like on the pattern itself, making the extended line to the bottom of the pattern. so you can then make the line you extended to match with the folded line of material.

To just make top, you only need 2 pieces of material, front and back, that’s it! So, the thing you have to do is to alter the orginal pattern…

      Hope this helps…

Hi, since I’m a novice in sewing, I really don’t understand how to cut the fabric from the altered pattern for the cowl top. Could you kindly explain? Thank you :)

Hi DesignByWendy, what you need to do, is to download the original pattern by ichigogirl, and yes, there is a slight mistake on my explanation in the instruction, maybe that what is making you confused.

Once you downloaded the pattern, as the picture I posted, the top line across, which the right hand is lower than the left, – whole line is the length of the opening from your shoulder to where ever you wanted to be. So, for example, if you wanted to make the front opening of 20 cm from the shoulder, then you have to alter the original pattern by extending the line towards the right hand side (where is lower than the left on the picture) to 20 cm from the left hand side of the pattern.

Then, from where you got to on the right hand side, you simply connect that to around the waist (or if you want the looseness going lower then a little lower, maybe hip area?).

Once you made the pattern, what you need to do, is fold the fabric into half, then the pattern, the line which is from the bottom opening of the top front to the length of dress to match with this fabric, where is folded. (please see this on the original pattern instructions.)

Hope this helps… let me know if you need to know more!

Thank you nonoshuk1 for the detailed explanation :)
I will try to do that tomorrow (I’ll make a top for a doll first) and will let you know if I have succeeded.
