Description

A very easy to sew project!
Semi-fitted to fitted dress or top with a cowl-neckline.
Suitable for jersey/knits with some drape.
Burdastyle sz 36, but should work for sz 34 and 38 as well. My measurements for reference: 84cm bust, 67cm waist and 90cm hips, bra size 70B = 32B. In the shops I always buy size 34 (=XS), but according to the Burda sizing chart I’m a size 36. I hope that helps you get an idea of whether it will fit or not :-).

Material Notes

Jersey/knits with some drape. Amount needed is the desired length of the dress/top + about 20cm's for the facing and seam-allowances.

Yay! I’ve been oogling over this dress since i first saw it. But I think I finally have the perfect model for it! Have a friend who needs a maternity dress for a wedding. Will let you know how your dress works as maternity!

According to the sizing chart, I’m (less than) 0, was wondering how I’d adjust the pattern to fit me? Also, what material did you use to make the grey cowl dress? It’s gorgeous. I’m hoping to make a grey, black, and white version. :) Thanks.

Hm, I’m not good at grading patterns (am learning), but I think you can remove a bit from the center front and a bit from just above the waist. Look in the how-to section here, I think I saw a tutorial a while ago. And several on sites about using vintage patterns. Hope you find advice and succeed!

Hi, this is the first pattern I am downloading. I love this tunic/dress. Is there a general guide for the yardage needed? How will I know how much I need?

Hi! The only guide for that is posted above: “Amount needed is the desired length of the dress/top + about 20cm’s for the facing and seam-allowances”
To be sure, bring the pattern to the fabric shop, it also depends on the width of the fabric.

Hi, I loved this dress, thank you for posting it. I would like to sew a top using your pattern, how can I adapt it to a silky fabric? what would I need to add to compensate for the lack of stretch? Thanks.

Hm, I think you would have to use another pattern. What you could do is use a pattern for non-stretchy fabrics for the dress, and combine it with the cowl-collar from this pattern. You could use the sleeve-openings as a guide on where to combine them, I think. But do make a toile before you cut the proper material!

Thank you for your Pattern, I’m making a fabulous Metallic Silver version, however my sewing machine has just broken :S could you recommend anything else that would work (other than hand stitching) to attach the seams together? Thanks. :)

      Oooh, poor you!
I really think the best option is to sew the seams… glue or something like that seems a bit un-precise and daring… I’ve used both an overlock machine and an ordinary sewing machine on zig-zag and on stretch-seams for this kind of projects.
Hopefully your machine is fixed by now?

This is a beautiful dress, and I’m looking forward to making it myself! My dilemma is though, I’d like it to be just a little more revealing and I can’t figure out for the life of me how to make the cowl droopier without sacrificing the fit of the rest of the dress. What lines should I alter to bring the neckline lower?

I have just commented on your top and from that page came here – as far as I understand, this is the original dress you are talking about. In any way, it is beautiful! Love the fit, the cowl neck, the versatile styly and it looks so great on you!!! And thank you again for the pattern!

This is one more thing that I hope will be corrected before final-last launch. This (being a stage 2-beta) site is the only one I’m on that won’t allow a member to edit her/his comments unless done before posting. No-one I know of is so perfect that every word is perfectly spelled. Does anyone from the Team know if this will be corrected, or is it "under consideration? (That consideration rug has to be getting pretty lumpy, by now:( ) Cordially, Nehmah

No problem, you can’t remove them, and I added a few double ones on other projects myself, it happens… not your fault :-)!

Yey, it’d be great if I as the “owner” of this page, or the author of the comments, could remove comments. I’d like to remove my own comments further below since they’re not valid anymore, it looks ok now :-). A wanted feature (as many before me have mentioned).

Hi IchiGoGirl! perhaps you can help me… i’m trying to sew your wonderful pattern as a cowl top for my sister-in-law. For that purpose, i’m trying to grade it to burda size 42- and i could use some help with grading the armhole+cowl bit on the front piece. i did the back piece fine, but on the front: 1. I don’t know weather to add more material to the cowl itself+facing. would you enlarge it? 2. The armhole is supposed to be 4 cm. larger, but i don’t know where to locate it in the pattern. 3. any other grading tips would be useful… thank you so much! Nitzan.
