This pattern was easy to follow and mainly easy to do, even the boning which I thought would be tricky. I still need to do my final hem but I think I will take in the skirt a little – too full and does not flatter me at all! I am pretty pleased with the result so far, but the bodice is just a little loose round the bust (which you can see in one of the pics) Any advice about how I can sort it? Is it possible to ‘simply’ take the zip out and replace it with a deeper seam allowance to take up the slack? I’ve already stitched the lining in place.

My mum for helping me cut out the pattern pieces and sort out a wee problem at the top of the zip!

Looks fantastic! I want to try one myself, but I’m scared of the boning! I’m a fairly new sewer, so pardon me if this idea is ridiculous but what about adding a couple of darts to take in the bust?

Great looking dress and tough to do the fitting by yourself. Truthfully, I don’t think taking the zip out and using a wider seam allowance is going to work especially since the bodice appears to fit everywhere else. It appears from the pictures that it is just the top of the front princess seams where the reduction needs to take place. Assuming the lining has the same lines the you can evenly take out the excess evenly on both sides of the seams on both the fashion fabric and the lining. Yes, it is work ripping out the stitches and moving the boning, but the results would look much prettier. Next option would be to remove the excess from the side seams. The princess seams lines would not be altered so no moving the boning unless there is some at the side seams, I can’t tell. The nice thing about adjusting the side seams is that it is less noticeable. The fabric is a herringbone and effectively acts as a tone on tone stripe; there is a concern if a lot is taken out at the top of the back seam, a not so pretty wavy stripe pattern will occur at top of the zipper. (Besides, do you really, I mean, REALLY want to take out the zipper?? Maybe you have better luck then I do with them getting them to look right the first time.) AmandaMargaret is right. The dress does look great on you and it would be well worth your time to do the adjustments across the multiple seams. Good luck with the alterations!

the dress looks beautiful. i love the fabric you chose for it. it’s quite funny because i have this pattern in my library and haven’t made it yet and i saw your dress and thought how pretty it is…then i saw the pattern envelope! now i have to get off my duff and make it! as for the problem around the bust, you can try to take the zip out and take a wider seam allowance, but it may make the side seams and princess seams off toward the back. i know you already put the lining in, but you may be happier in the end if you take the stitches out and bring in all the seams a little. but, the zipper is the easier place to start. good luck and let us know how it goes! it looks beautiful on you!
