My new favorite skirt! I’ve been wanting this skirt for awhile, and I love how it turned out! It’s a variation of the Quick Party Skirt How-To. I used a corduroy fabric, widened the waistband, and used a button closure in lieu of a zipper (I was very afraid of putting a zipper into such a full skirt). I had a few issues with the buttons, because it is so fitted. I needed a backing behind them, and there was one point where I also needed a hook and eye. Not perfect, but good enough for me :)
I thought for awhile about making this a bubble skirt, but it’s more casual/wearable (and less work) this way :) I also was envisioning this with pockets, and when it came down to it I completely forgot! Oh well :(

I was surprised to see the negative critisism too! It’s not typical of this community! I liked the skirt and will try it too. And maybe make mistakes on the way… :)

I really like this skirt its adding abit of fun to work, the button detail makes it so unique and I think if you were to make it again with more time it would be perfect. I also agree with your point below that this site is for constructive criticism, being a novice sewing just starting out, I know the first project I post will not be perfect but I do not expect people to post blunt and negative comments, however I would definetly appreciate any pointers and constructive criticism. Yes we can all see the closure needs work, and im sure another member of this site can give some pointers as to ways to fix it!
Liz you have done a fantastic job, keep sharing your amazing work with us.

Thank you Kristy! It’s so frustrating when somebody feels the need to be that negative, and I thought so hard about whether I should even bother to respond, but I think it needs to be said (the best I can without being mean spirited)! I appreciate your support :) I’m glad you like my skirt- I love it and wear it proudly despite the closure! Ha! I can’t wait to see your work! Good luck with your projects and be proud to post (and wear) them always! Most people around here are extraordinarily helpful :)

Did the other posters actually look at the pictures? As is painfully apparent in the close up of the buttons, the waistband is too tight and the closure is very sloppy indeed.

As I am fully aware and pointed out, I had quite a bit of difficulty with the closure, and was in quite a hurry to finish. I’m not an advanced sewer, and have never actually taken lessons, I’m just doing the best I can. I don’t appreciate such negative feedback. If you would like to give me constructive criticism, or helpful advice, I’m more than happy to hear it, otherwise please keep your negativity to yourself. This site is largely about supporting people as they learn to sew not cutting them down for their mistakes. Please respect each of our skill levels and only give your positive feedback, helpful advice, or none at all. Thanks.

The fabric and colour choice, the shape of the skirt, and all the details really complement each other. I really love this!

I like the choice of buttons over a zipper, they add a really nice detail. Your skirt looks very well made and well done over coming all those obstacles without giving up. If you hadn’t of said we’d never have known but it’s also good to share for future advice to others xx
