VintageModern Design Challenge
Apron based on the March Magic pattern Slip Over Apron from Amy Barickman’s Vintage Notions Book. I had an idea of how I wanted to alter this pattern but circumstances prevented me from fulfilling this “vision” (I had foot surgery-note right foot boot in photo- Feb 16 and have only put the crutches aside this past weekend, I cannot drive and actually had to get creative to even sew ). Necessity being the Mother of Invention I compromised and went with simple.
I altered the pattern making side loops for the tie so the apron could still slip over the neck but be adjustable. I also serged edges for a modern and quick finish (tried to lettuce edge the skirt however the material I had available was too stiff and did not have the “hand” for this finish. I added the heart as I love to cook and sew but this easily could be finished straight across. Also added the decorative stitching on the pocket because we always are trying to think of ways to justify buying the machine that had “hundreds of decorative stitches”
Used an off-white duck I had available however would have chosen a bright quilting cotton if I had been mobile.
Try out menswear inspired wardrobe staples, like unconventional jackets and high waisted pants.
