I’ve been wanting to do a butterfly project since I taped last year’s calendar butterflies to my ceiling. This is a two-piece dress with pencil skirt and halter top. The reason I made it two-piece is because I think I will get more wear out of the pieces separately. I designed the pieces myself out of a bedsheet, so there was a lot of trial and error involved.
I would appreciate any tips for how to alter this so that I don’t get BELLY showing when wearing as a dress. Would it be too much to wear the scarf as a sash? I am afraid to mess anything up but I don’t think a woman my age needs to show her fish-white belly.
I dyed an old sateen jacquard bedsheet orange. Polyester chiffon from Joann, 2.50 per yard.

What a great dress, i really like it. In the photos you have posted, well to me, the belly area looks fine and personally i wouldn’t really change it. But both previous suggestions are great I think :-)

IMHO, think it would have been stunning in all orange with band on the halter top lengthened and maybe an Obi belt:

You can find free patterns online for making Obi belts. Free one think a little too deep:

I like that! I’ve got enough bedsheet – I see a new top coming.

I think if you wear the scarf as a sash it would be perfect. You can also make an orange sash if you have any left or blue or green fabric like the butterflies.

Thank you! I was experimenting with an organza overlay, but it was a bit dressy for an old sheet.
