This is my first attempt at JJ… I liked the pattern in general but the shirt came out VERY big! I had to make some major readjustments to make it wearable. I made the ruffles almost double the size on the pattern and used a plaid to make the ruffles jump out even more! After loving the look of someone’s blouse with french seams I have not looked back. Took a lot of time, but such a pretty finished product! With no sewing machine I have developed a genuine dislike for button holes… but my love for buttons makes hand sewing button holes doable. I love the sculptural element and the way the colors play together!
I used local fabric, again. Much of what I can get here is plaid, so it is a forced obsession I have with plaid, but it’s blossoming into a very real friendship. These are both cotton, the blue lighter, the plaid a heavier weight cotton.

I love this! So dramatic. Makes me think vintage stage costume – that’s a good thing.

I have IMMENSE respect for a hand sewer. I did my first few projects by hand too, till I bought a machine. I find hand sewing very therapeutic though, and I go back to it often. Good going with this top. I LOVE ruffles!
