My version of the popular coffee date dress. The pleated ruffle was inspired by the Anthropologie “Soft Drapes Blouse”, designed by Yoana Baraschi. I added a waistband, as I found the bodice a bit short for my body. Other than that, the dress was constructed exactly as directed in the pattern instructions.
This was my first attempt at constructing a dress. Though it’s not perfect, I’m pretty happy with the results. Please excuse the blurry photos.

I think that your ruffle variation is better than the original! Could you post even just a sketch of how you constructed it? If I ever made this dress, I’d love to be able to make mine look something like yours!

Yes, there’s a problem with the original instructions link. Elainemay has reposted the instructions for the multisize pattern here: linktext:www.elainehuang.com/patterns/coffee-date-dress-multisize-instructions.pdf
Hope this helps…and good luck with your coffee date dress!

the waistband changes the drape of the dress so much, I had been having problems with the waist of the coffee date dress too- I’ll have to try this. Great job!!

I wasn’t actually expecting the drape to change so much, but I do really like the “blousy” effect it gives the bodice. I think it’s a definite solution for those of us who are a bit longer waisted.

It’s the best version of the coffe dress! How did you do the neckline detail? Did you cut the pattern piece and sew it differently?

For the neckline detail, I cut a long piece of fabric and attached three narrower strips lengthwise to give a pleated effect to the ruffle. I started by attaching the entire thing to the side seam allowance (the ruffle is actually sewn into the side seam on one side and in the shoulder seam on the other). I then draped the strip onto the neckline of the bodice and up to the shoulder on the other side. I did all of the detailing before the “all in one facing” step in the pattern instructions.
I hope that all makes sense! It’s hard for me to put actions into words sometimes! haha.
