Description

This is, in fact, my very first project. I may remove this explosion up front, but no decision has yet been made. This is lined with a white cotton/poly fabric so no one can see my leg shadows.

Note: This pattern does not include seam allowances.
(You may notice on the back I had to add an extra piece to extend the width)

wow LOVE the explosion up front—-so much better than ruffles…..any chance you can give some tips on how you achieved that? :)

Such a gorgeous dress – I’m going to try to make this on the weekend. I love your ruffle. I just wanted to ask what you mean when you say ‘Make that a ruffle, but put the ruffle edge about 1 inch from one of the sides’ ? Thanks heaps!

The pattern was only too small for me across the back. I think I have an unusually wide back for the size of the rest of my body. I have that problem with many patters.
Keep in mind, the pattern DOES NOT HAVE SEAM ALLOWANCES!

thanks for all the tips on how to make the mega ruffle; my best friend saw this and requested it, so now i’m going to try to make the coffee date with a similarly large and in-charge ruffle. nice job!

The ruffles are inspiring and gorgeous — something you’d see on Project Runway. I also dig the panel you had to add in the bag, it gives it a good detail. I’m not just being nice, either, because I thought all this before I read your description. ;) I think I’m going to do the same look with my own version of this dress. Thanks!

can anyone tell me the yardage requirements for the coffee date dress? i want to make the top with one fabric and then skirt with another, so dividing it up into two fabric requirements would help. thanks in advance!

Hey, I’m sorry to get back to you so late and also for what I’m about to write: I don’t know! I bought 3 yards for the whole project and I had about 3/4 yard left over. I would print out the pattern, lay out the pieces according to which ones you’ll use in each fabric, and measure.
I am sorry I can’t be of more help.

I am very impressed this is your first project- you’ve done really well! I love the ruffle too, and I think you should definetly keep at it as you’ve obviously got some talent! Good work and keep sewing!

Wow! I let out a few laughs— what a thrill to receive so many comments! Thank you all dearly. It feels so great to finish a project and (slowly) join the ranks of this talented group!

And now I am convinced to keep the ruffles. Thanks again!

Calicokate: Go for the dress. This one took a lot of seam ripping, but it came together. Some advice for you— cut out the pattern AT LEAST a size bigger than your burdasize (do look up the sizes as they may differ from the size on the clothes you buy). The cutting lines for this pattern are actually the sewing lines. It hurts to make something that won’t fit! And iron as you sew. Good luck!

Do NOT remove the ruffle!!! It’s spectacular, without being outrageous. Did you find this dress to be easy, seeing as it’s your first project? I’ve been wanting one- but I’m intimidated to make something for myself. Anyway, LOVE it!!!!!

I, too, like the ruffle, but I suppose it depends on what occasion you plan on wearing this dress for. Personally, I feel as though if its supposed to be a casual day dress, then I probably wouldn’t be able to pull off the big ruffle. But if you plan on dressing it up, then the big ruffle makes a great statement.
