I used pattern number 118 from April 2010 to make these climbing pants. I made a few adjustments to make perfect climbing pants. In a description of the original pattern, the waistband is described as “a loose fit to allow the trousers to slip below the waist during wearing” so I tightened the fit by removing a 1/4" material out of the center of the back and front of legs and also shortening the crotch to waist length. I also added removable legs (using velco) and lowered the pocket. I used a water resistant fabric. (Check out Seattle Fabrics for a wide variety or active wear material – the material is not only highly functional but also comes in a wide selection of colors so you don’t need to settle for being unfashionable!)
The pant style would also be great for casual cycling, beach combing, and kayaking.
