I bought the burda pattern from Joann’s. Its number 7493, project B. I don’t have the sculpted arms or flat belly of the model, but I think that the cut looks good. It may run a bit large as my last burda dress that I made was too big and needed adjustments. I went down one size and it fits well now. I found that if I shimmy into the dress, I don’t need a zipper on the back. So in theory, I may be able to go down one more size. Or half size.
Note that for this pattern, I didn’t need to shorten the skirt or bodice even though I am three inches shorter than the size the pattern was made for (which is 5 foot, 6 inches) I do think the dress would look cute with a shorter length skirt as well. It rests just above the tops of my knees. It could definitely go 2 or 3 inches (MAX) shorter and still look classy, if you adjust the slit in the back.
I also found it useful to lay the pattern on the fabric a bit differently, with all the pieces facing the same direction, as the print on my fabric was brick layer style, but the detail was only symmetrical in thirds.
It’s not really clear in the instructions, unless I’m not reading them thoroughly, that all the neckline and shoulder and arm bands need to be doubled. So to clarify, fold the fabric in half, (for single layer) right sides on the outside, and make sure when you lay out the pieces, there is enough fabric space for twice as many band pieces, with the neck band being on the fold (#5).
You also have to carefully hand sew the bands on the inside of the dress so that there isn’t an extra row of stitching. It didn’t take too long. And I’m terrible at hand sewing.
Quilt weight woven cotton, very, VERY slight stretch to it. Iron-on interfacing for the neck, shoulder and arm bands. Coats and Clark thread.
