It’s my first attempt at a swimsuit, but I just loved the classic style so I thought I’d give it a go. I had a little trouble attaching the straps, but it came together without too much hassle. I shall definitely make this again :)

I love this version, you’re right making the bands contrasting rather than the inset is much more ladylike. Going to cut one up this instant, thanks for the inspiration :-).

Gee you did an awesome job! It came out looking wonderfully! I tried the Alison pattern, but it just didn’t work for me. I might try again using the instructions you linked though (and altering some pieces fairly majorly :S)

Thanks :) I think the trick with this pattern is in the way you do the bust. I attached it fairly high up and tried to get heaps of gathering and I attached the back strap where my bra strap would usually go to help it sit well. Hope that helps if you end up trying again!

Wow! I’ve heard that sewing stretchy swimsuit material is difficult, but you did such an excellent job! The navy and white combination is great as well.

Really, really wonderful! Did you use swimsuit lining on the inside? Also, did you put a padded cup thing into the bust?

I couldn’t find any lining at my local so I didn’t bother and I didn’t use cups, but I think it would be a good plan. I’d use them next time :)

Is this Burda’s free allison pattern? if so, how far up did you attach the top peice to get it to actually cover anything haha. I’m on the slightly bigger side as far as busts go and mine didn’t stay up at all.

Indeed it is the Alison! I attached it about 19cm up, and just didn’t gather it as much on the sides, and made the centre tab a little smaller to keep the gathered look. You might want to try inserting some cups to help keep things in check too. I made the body a little short so I’d put them in next time to stop it from wandering down.

yea, I added a lot of length because I am tall, I’ll have to try the cups, thanks!

It’s the free Alison pattern. The instructions were a bit useless so I used the guide on morbidlove’s blog which is here: http://myheartsdebacle.blogspot.com/ Very helpful! Have a go!
