New Style 2259: Misses Dress with double peplum, and choice of long, three-quarter, or short sleeve.
This is a mail order pattern that came with its original envelope – I just love that! The postmark is June 11, 1948 which is later than I would guess from the style lines, but there you go!
The instructions are rather limited. I am still not quite sure that I constructed the peplum pieces as they were originally intended, but I am happy with the result. But the peplum drafting is genius. The lower flounce drapes in place, and the upper is gathered at the left hip.
I love this design, and cannot think of a single thing I would change! In my opinion, this is a truly classic design.
I added by standard 3/4" to the torso length. That was the only alteration necessary!
Well, I did add a pair of small shoulder pads. The instructions suggest cutting a square, stuffing it, and folding it into a triangle shape. I know from experience that I do not like that shape because the pointed ends can poke through a thin material, like my wool, so I made by own half circle version.
I am certain that I will be using this one again. If you come across a copy, I would highly recommend picking it up!
As always, more pictures may be found over on my blog, Lilacs & Lace.
