We wanted to co-ordinate our wedding party and I really wanted to make my dress and my partner’s outfit. We also bought fabrics for our 3 best ladies, 2 of whom lived too far away for me to help them (they had dressmaker’s do theirs), and so I did 1 of those as well!
I made up a 3-piece for my partner in silver-grey silk dupioni and red acetate lining fabric, a classic pencil-skirted halter dress for my best lady (on the far right of the photo) out of a grey cotton mix and red silk dupioni, and a halter-style semi-circle skirted dress with back panel for me out of red silk dupioni, with a silver grey tulle petticoat underneath - thank you to Sugardale for her amazing tutorial on this "Sugardale"http://sugardale.blogspot.com/2008/08/how-to-make-petticoat.html Apologies for my dummy as well, she is accommodating everything from my size 12 best lady's dress to my size 20 one!! Finally, huge thanks to our photographer Ronelle Rhode for her amazing work with a very grey day!

Excellent! I’m glad I found your project. I found Dupioni silk for extremely cheap and wasn’t sure how to use it The person who said they loved the fact that each of the ladies had a different style of dress. Makes perfect sense, not everyone is shaped the same and there is no reason to make people look weird on your special day….:D

Gorgeous outfits. Fabulous colour combo and I love that the best ladies dresses are different styles. Can I ask what pattern you used for the best lady dress that you made please?

Certainly – I honestly think this was the easiest dress I have ever made – McCalls 3584 view B. If I had her figure I’d be making a few for myself :-)

Congratulations – on the partnership, and on the outfits! You all look AMAZING!! The red dress is delicious (I have a huge weakness for that shade of red) – as are the Best Ladies’ dresses. I love the unity of colours and three different shapes of Best Ladies dresses. Oh – and that’s a great spot for the pics too! It looks like a really happy day!
