I amde this dress for my cousin. In order to get the chiffon to work with such a fitted bodice, I layed it over dupioni and cut and sewed both layers as one. The skirt is a circle (easy to cut with no pattern), and the flounces are open circles cut with one measurement to fit the length of the skirt and stitched straight on. I guess all I’ve been making are blue dresses!

This looks beautiful! I’m currently attempting a similar project but I didn’t know how to make a fitted bodice with chiffon – thanks for the dupioni suggestion! Did you make the flounces with chiffon? How did you finish the inside edge that’s attached to the skirt?

The flounces on this are unfinished. I straightened the inside edge of the circle out and layed them vertically on the skirt two at a time (one laying over the other by 1/4", then I straight stitched down the length of the skirt. Because they are cut on the bias, the chiffon doesn’t ravel too much.

So elegant. Love the color and the flounces on the skirt are fantastic.
