Burda Style For people who sew
Description
Christening bonnets made for my twin nephews. A quasi sailor hat with gold piping and one I made from a renaissance painting of an infant. The last one has pleats in the back and is trimmed with bobbin lace of my own design.
The pattern for the sailor hat is from a book from the 1950’s.
The other one was a bit more tricky. I got a doll’s head and draped and pinned and basted and cut a few times till the form was satisfactory. The upper edge and the side edges make an almost heart shaped frame for the face.
Material Notes
Ivory colored raw thai silk with golden silk lining and bobbin lace in two gauges white linen thread.

Thank you so much. I was great fun making them, but very difficult to determine their head sizes in advance. I actually had to borrow a pair of scissors from the vicar and cut the sailor hat open in the neck. Should have used stretch in stead of silk!
