This project was made in response to a 48 hour challenge – The Sewcial Bee . The brief was to make something inspired by food. I kinda did it the other way around. I had this fabulous turquoise swirly patterned fabric that was given to me by a friend & wanted to make another 50’s sheath dress. I could see a chocolate-y swirly cake going with it quite nicely, so while I made the dress, Daughter No2 got cracking on a cake. She found loads of recipes she liked, but settled on the Chocolate Peppermint.
The dress pattern is a 1957 McCalls, no 4003in size 14 (bust 34). It has a fitted bodice, off the shoulder “sleeves”, a side zip & bound buttonholes. The purple buttons came from my stash, some I’d got from a charity shop a while ago. The seams are all pinked & the hem taped & hand stitched.
This dress is for sale in my Etsy shop, Mercury Handmade
