I had bought this beautiful jersey to make an asian dress with a pattern I found on this website:
http://m-sewing.com/patterns-catalog/women/dresses/asian-dress.html
I didn’t follow all the instructions, adding bias tape on the collar, the armholes, the slits and the bottom of the dress. I think that is what they do on “real” asian dresses.
I also took more fabric in the darts to underline my waist a little more.
I’m really happy with the result : original and chic!

I’m with Nana.t. I’ve been trying to get there too but didn’t want to trial and error. But the fabric that I’ve been eyeing is not that cheap so I guess I’d better do a mus.

I’d been thinking about making that pattern for a while. Thanks. Nice dress. Any additional advice on making that dress would be welcome.

I can tip you on the amount of fabric you will need (for size M) as they don’t mention it on the instructions. I used aout 1,50 m jersey, 5m bias tape and a 35cm zipper. I made de buttons using bias tape, following these instructions : http://www.ez-fit.com/how_to_sew_a_chinese_frog.cfm but I think it’s not the most suitable fabric. I had to retry a lot of times before getting 3 acceptable buttons.
If you decide to add bias tape on the slits, as I did, you will have to turn under about 1,5 cm (same as you take in the side seam) of the slit edge before sewing the bias tape. Otherwise the slits will be wider than the rest of the dress.
And last thing: " to keep the dress closed, I sew the buttons lower than on the picture of the link and I sew “Upper front Part” a bit over “Front Part”.
