I got the inspiration for this hat from my three-year-old son’s nursery school — they have a party each year to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday. I thought, what better time to make a silly hat? When my son saw my blue-on-blue striped prototype, he requested one of his own.
I freehanded this pattern separately rather than shrinking my old pattern, because this red sweater scrap was a bit oddly shaped. Stitched on the ear details and the ornament by hand, again. Ornament is made from scraps of the red felt, a crocheted wool twirl, and a vintage button. I’m a little disappointed that this came out so snug on his growing head, but it’s not too snug to wear. It’s quite a challenge sizing things right for a little growing body.
