Description

This is my first completed sewing project. It is a circle skirt with some fabric I thought was really cool. I’m learning through a book that comes with the patterns included and so far so good.

Material Notes

Fabric is polyester, thread, elastic, spiffy sewing machine, patience.

Thank you everyone – you’re too nice!

ana.bean – thanks for the tips. I’m going to have to sit down and work on that one. I think it would look so much more polished with a belt waist. I’m glad you told me why it cannot be done with the elastic in the casing as I was planning on sitting down and trying it.

Kiraph – yes it really is great fabric. I love it so much I went back to the store and bought the rest of the bolt (a whole 2.34 yd) so I can keep it for something down the road.

You look great: that is awesome fabric. Well done! You’re right, it is indeed possible to make a skirt with a non elasticated waistband; you’ll proabably need to put in some darts if the circumfrence of the top of the skirt is larger than the waistband (this is why just sewing a belt onto the waistband won’t work), and of course you’ll need some sort of fastening, such as a zipper/buttons. None of this is that hard though; although I’d try to find a tutorial/how to for the closure (there are special feet for zippers and buttonholes)

    Good luck!

Thank you. The only part I would change is the elastic waistband. The book I am working with has how to’s on making the belts but not necessarily attaching them to garments with elastic waistbands. To me – the one that overcomplicates everything – this is a big deal. Can I just sew that belt onto the elastic wastband? Or is there a better way?? The author hides the elastic waistband with a belt – something I don’t really own. I can go that route but if I could incorporate an already done waistband – no stinkin’ belt necessary fashion – that would be pretty cool.

I will keep sewing though because I am becoming slightly addicting and this website is just fueling the fire!

Thank you evette. I love the fabric too – I have to say my husband discovered it first and I just ooooed and aahhed over it. It is actually really comfy too. I love it very much and I’m proud of how it turned out since it is my first completed project.
