For some reason this top always reminds me of the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland…hence the garment name.
This pattern is from BWOF 04/2009 112 Top. I shortened the sleeve length as I wanted to be able to wear it through summer. I had to add the lower band once sewn as it was too short for me. The neck bias was supposed to be folded in, but I like the contrast the stripes gave so I left it facing out, I think it gives a nice finish.
This was my first project on my overlocker, and I like how easy it is to sew stretchy materials. No I didn’t manage to match all the stripes up, but about half of them are, and I think the different direction of the stripes throughout the top distracts from that anyway.
Black and cream jersey from Sew Tessuti.

I love the contrast on both the neckband and the bands on the sleeves and waist! And the fit of the top is great!!!

Thanks, I’m surprised it fit so well, I made it whilst I was pregnant so had to wait and see. So glad it worked out ok :-)

I love how simply changing direction of stripes gives such a nice contrast. Looks great and I really like the length of the sleeves.

Thanks, I think I will try the same style with longer sleeves for a winter top.

I love stripes too, and your project looks very good. You could have gone crazy and matched more stripes but who cares?! The end results still looks great! Save that OCD action for the next striped project.
