Charlies for Christmas

Added Oct 29, 2012

Charlie Bag is one of my favorite patterns on Burda Style. I can make it over and over again. So last year I sewn a dozen Charlie bags as Christmas gifts for family and friends. I was looking for something personal yet practical, simple but still cute and suitable for both men and women. A grocery bag was the perfect option.
I used sturdy Ikea fabrics. As far as I know only Saralisa and Stockholm Blad are still available. All edges are finished with bias tape. I used kilometers LOL. Made it myself (Ditte fabric from Ikea) using bias tape maker form Prym. This gadget is really worth every penny (or 10 Euro) I can recommend it to anybody.
This year I will make some more. I’ve found a fun fabric already. Margareta from Ikea looks like chopped wood, very masculine.

Material Notes

Ikea cotton, bias tape

I’ve done this too! This year I have used IKEA tea towels (already hemmed) and end-of-bolt quilting cottons I bought on sale..all my work colleagues are getting them :) I have ditched the pocket and have used a side elastic for rolling them up small.

I have ditched the pocket as well cause the fabric was to thick. To speed up the sewing I picked coordinating fabrics on purpose and sewed all the bags without rethreading my serger.
