My new year’s resolution is to sew at least one item of clothing a month – and use up some of my massive fabric store. This is January.
I’ve been after a simple shift dress pattern for a while. They are so handy for work. I love this one from the August 2009 issues of the Burda magazine. It’s the simple plain top half and the gathered tulip style skirt.
The fabric was originally bought to be a shift dress, then I was looking at it possibly for a suit but I didn’t have enough material, so it was back to being a dress.
During this project I finally learned how to put an invisible zip in so that it looks pretty invisible. That and the more sewing I do, the neater things are starting to look. They’re still not perfect but they are all vast improvements on earlier projects.
Leopard and snakeskin are the new neutrals.
