I am attending an indoor-outdoor daytime event in a town famous for severe humidity. I need a dress that is light and heavy in order to widthstand the steaming heat and the chill of air-conditioning. The attire is dressy-casual. This does not mean semi-formal which has an evening feel or business-casual which makes me think of dockers and shoes with no socks. I have decided to make the Burda Boucle Dress for the occasion. Last week I bought a beautiful charcoal multicolored tweed on sale. Notions are on sale later this week. I can’t wait to cut and sew up my dress in order to show it off step-by-step.
A) In my opinion, a boucle fabric may work nicely but a fun tweed seems more suitable for this design.
B) Paragraph 2 of the sewing instructions needs line-by-line illustrations. This is the extensively detailed construction of the most visible part of the dress.
C) I recommend shoring up the edges of the smaller pieces so the tweed doesn’t unravel as much. An overlock around edges eased my mind.
I made a matching day clutch purse to go with my outfit.
Pattern Note: Burda, I find the Boucle Dress pattern incomplete at the neckline and collar but as a learning intermediate I managed to make it work with a few additions and my mother’s expert advice. Please don’t forget your home sewing clientele. We love high fashion as much as designers do. Keep the new patterns coming…and I loved getting a free bonus pattern for my 3 online purchases.
